Me llamo Rocky

I'm a Big Kid Now

In this last month, Enzo has been blowing my mind with how much he understands about his surroundings and how much effort he has put into communication.  Yesterday, for instance, he was outside drinking out of a cup, when he spilled all over.  I was in the house and in he came, on a mission, running right to the kitchen drawers.  I could tell he knew what he was doing (rather than just going to a drawer to open it and rip everything inside apart), so I watched as he went to the towel drawer, grabbed a towel, then went outside and wiped up his water!!  Yes, my one-year-old did that!!

Enzo is not much of a talker yet, but real recently he has started to really try and say words.  He is great at copying sounds, but anything with more than one syllable is too much of a challenge.  He loves when he accomplishes a word, like "baby" "stinky" "rocky"and "Da".  He now has a specific sound for Eva,too, which is "Ba".  But, the best way Enzo knows how to communicate is by gestures.  If he wants me to pick him up, he will literally try and pick me up, then when I stand he will pull on my hands until I pick him up.  He will tell on Eva when she does something by grabbing my hand to pull me to Eva, point at her, point at his head, then duck into my lap and whimper.  It actually makes me laugh.  He tells on his sister without even using words!

Enzo is also starting to really bond with all of our pets.  He likes to say hello to Rocky first thing in the morning, will sit next to Bumpy, or follow him around, and will constantly give Turtleini attention when she is out.  And, now that it is warm, they are out alot during the day...

Eva is also doing some new things.  She is practicing her independance to the extreme.  She is really going through a "I want to help you, Mommy" phase.  For the most part, I love it.  She loves to clean her room (all by herself), she loves making scrambled eggs for the family, cleaning, you name it.  Today, I was getting myself ready to go and she comes up and says "I will dress myself today".  Um, yes please!  She picked out a shirt, pants, shoes, brushed her teeth, and her hair.  She helped me carry things to the car and also let me listen to adult music in the car!

Some days, though, the independance of dressing herself has become a problem.  While I completely support her own choice of clothes, its the changing of clothes 10 times in one day that I have a problem with.  There are clothes scattered all throughout the house.  Its like doing a load of laundry every day.  Folding them and putting them back over and over again.  I do have to admit though, the outfits she comes up with are very impressive.  And, she even asks me to take pictures of her...

Eva is also AMAZING with younger kids.  Every time she sees anyone younger (exception for Enzo, of course), she will stop in her tracks and sweetly talk to them and try to teach them a new word or comfort them or whatever.  Its all the time.  And, it always melts my heart.  She loves to hold babies and coo with them, I just love how big her heart is :)

Over the last weekend, Eva and I attended Aurora's first birthday.  Eva loved teaching her how to run around and have fun, and Aurora loved having a big girl to follow around.  I didn't get a great picture of them, but I did get one of Eva.  Aurora's mom and  her friends are an amazingly creative bunch of girls who put together the most beautiful Parisian Birthday party.  They had berets for the kids (and sent them all home with handmade felt macaroons), with the most beautiful display of flowers and food.  Eva loved using the bread as a sword...

Last week was really hot, so most of the days we spent out on the slip 'n slide.  I found that it is the best entertainment for kids all ages. We had Jacob and Lucy over for some splash time, where Hannah helped teach Jacob and Eva how to run and slide.  They loved it, but never fully caught on.  So, Hannah left with sore arms from pushing them over and over...

Enzo really enjoys the water, too, but he starts to get bored with it way before Eva is done.  He starts to scope out all the toys in the yard and figure out what he can do with them....

When we spend time at the house, I have been dabbling in some sewing.  Most of what I have been working on are long time projects that have been lingering in the closer, waiting to come alive.  One thing I have really wanted to do what take one of my grandpa's old shirts (he wore plaid short-sleeved, collared shirts every day), and transform it into a dress for Eva and a bow-tie for Enzo.  And, I finally did it!  In the pic below, I styled Eva's dress with a crocheted collar that was once my grandma's.  The best part it, both of my kids love their new clothes :)

Lastly, with Easter right around the corner, I have some fun pictures to send you off in the Easter weekend.

Eva participated in an egg hunt with her outdoor class...

She visited the Easter Bunny at Mall of America with Uncle Derek and Aunt Cortney...

We had a photo shoot with their Easter apparel to wish you all a Happy Easter!

...in which Enzo did not want to participate...

And to get into the festive spirit, we did an Easter craft just to share with all of you...

Happy Easter, Sending all of our Love your way!
