Stumpfest: Kidless in Portland

Last weekend, Dana and I were granted a 5 day vacation, kid-free, in Portland, Oregon.  We were invited to Dana's good friend, Joe's wedding, which prompted the visit, but we also decided to tack on a couple extra days to sight-see, sleep-in, and just enjoy a new city.

On our first full day, we were so excited to reunite with our good friends, Megan and Chris, who drove down from Washington to see us.  As soon as they arrived, we basically took over the city.

One of the things that Dana and I were really looking forward to is checking out as many craft breweries as we could and compare them to our experiences in San Diego.  Although, at the time that we made those plans, I wasn't picturing myself watching Dana, who now had to drink for two (what a tough job!) Luckily, Megan and Chris were onboard for the experience, so he wasn't alone.

After 5 days, we think we covered 14 breweries total, and in summary found that Portland breweries have some pretty tasty beers (according to Mr. Professional Beer Drinker himself).

In between breweries, we also were "forced" to check out the infamous rival donuts shops.  We first experienced Blue Star Donuts, where I got a Blueberry Bourbon Basil Glazed Donut, and the guys tried the Bacon Maple Glaze...

Our second doughnut experience was at VooDoo Doughnuts, which we immediately found out was in a whole league of its own.  As it turns out, there is absolutely no comparison in the 2 donut shops and each MUST be visited at least once while you are in the city.  VooDoo Doughnuts was like a circus, with things like cereal for doughnut toppings, and funny shapes, like a voodoo doll with a pretzel stabbing a limb.  I treated myself to a bubblegum doughnut which was topped with an actual piece of bubblegum.  Yummy.

While most of our visit with Megan and Chris was eating and drinking, we also did a little sightseeing.  We took a little drive to Pittock Mansion, where there was a beautiful view of the city.  Obviously a great photo opportunity with my love...

The night before Joe and Diana's wedding, they hosted a happy hour where we were very excited to reunite with the soon-to-be newly weds who we hadn't seen in a few years (aren't they seriously the cutest?!)...

I wish I would've taken more pictures of the actual wedding, because it was SO beautifully done.  The couple looked stunning, happy, and very much in love.  The only picture we actually got was of the two of us, but hey, thats good too, because we don't get many opportunities for those...

After the wedding festivities, Dana and I had another 24 hours to do whatever we wanted with.  We decided to drive around and get a little sightseeing in.  We spent a few hours checking out a couple of the beautiful waterfalls...

Then ended with a visit to the Chinese Garden, where Dana's geeky tourist persona came out...

In the end, we were relaxed, incredibly grateful for the opportunity, and ready to come back home to reunite with our darling little munchkins.
