Museums and Santa

One of the coolest gifts that the kids got for their birthday was $$ to go towards museum passes, which are good for the whole family to get into all the museums at Balboa Park for a year (all except the zoo, which we are already members of).  We have been super excited to take advantage of these new passes and have already visited 3 museums.  Last Thursday was rainy, so Enzo and I skipped our class and started off at the Rueben H Fleet Science Center where Enzo played with all kinds of things.  He played in the kids zone with all the fun balls, the fire truck, and grocery belt, then got more curious with the big kid stuff and started building things with carbon atoms...

Our main purpose of going to Balboa Park was to visit the Model Railroad Museum, which I have never been to and thought Enzo might enjoy.  It opened late, so we didn't have much time there, but we really enjoyed looking at all the model trains, the big railroads, the legos, and the kids zone, where Enzo spent most of his time playing at the train table...

Over the weekend, we went back to Balboa Park, but this time to visit the Natural History Museum.  We wanted to go there in particular because every Sunday, Ms. Frizzle from The Magic School Bus, does an appearance and puts on a show with a different topic every month.  Eva loves The Magic School Bus books and the show, so she was really excited to take part in meeting "The Friz" in real life.  Today we learned about coyotes.  Eva had fun participating in the interactive show, but before that we enjoyed what the rest of the museum offered.  Daddy and Enzo branched off to look at all the fossils, while Eva and I stayed and played in the kids area...

We ended the day after a few hours because Enzo couldn't keep his head up.  He was clearly ready for a nap.  And when it comes to naps, this guy fights them like the plague.  It is so different than what I am use to with Eva.  She could never keep her head up past 12 and wanted her naps.  Enzo?  He thinks he isn't tired and no matter what...no matter how fussy he is, how tired his eyes are, how slow his body is moving, he refuses to lay in bed and take a nap.  And now that he is in a big boy bed, it is pretty easy for him to get up as soon as I lay him down.  I have given up on fighting him about it and just give him some "quiet time" for him to figure out what to do with.  On almost all occasions, I find him asleep in the most random places, but never in his bed...

Now that December is here we have also been spending lots of time getting ready for Santa to come.  This year, we introduced The Elf On The Shelf to our family.  After realizing that what I got was not the book and real elf that most families have, and instead a countdown calendar and a plush elf, I couldn't take it back and change it up.  Perhaps Santa will send us the real deal next year.  Regardless, we are having fun with it (even though we don't have the story to explain it's real purpose).  Our elf is named Butterfly and is the really mischievous type.  Eva loves looking for her every morning and can't wait to see what she did while Eva was sleeping.  Over the weekend, Butterfly, left a reindeer with a jelly belly poop trail and 2 boxes of jelly bellies.  Oh my, Eva thought it was the funniest thing ever...

On Friday, after Daddy got home from work, we put up the tree and put on all the ornaments and decorated inside our house...

On Saturday, the kids and I did some Xmas crafting.  We decoared gingerbread men, snowflakes, and penguins...

And then made them all into garland...

Then on Sunday, Daddy and Eva decorated outside.  Eva was so excited about the Snowman Family.  She kept acting like she was part of the family...

From here on out, it is Christmas music, Christmas books, and Christmas movies to keep us all the in the merry spirit of Christmas.
