We Want To Be Like Them

Rowan and Kierce were here for the visit, accompanying Grandma and Grandpa.  Eva and Enzo were in absolute heaven.  To have a sleepover with their big cousins for so many days was an absolute dream come true.  In fact, the regular routine of the kids waking up and rushing into our room to jump in our bed and wake us up became a thing of the past.  Dana and I were quickly replaced by Rowan and Kierce.  The poor girls were always woken up sooner than they hoped by having their eye lids pried open, or their toes being bitten, or a simple "Wake up!" yelled right into their ear.  Luckily, they love their little ones so much, they endured the painful alarm clock.  This picture pretty much sums up exactly what every morning looked like in our house...

When we were at home, the girls patiently entertained the kids by showing interest in their own modes of play.  Eva, of course, loves anything that involved princesses and pretend play, so to have 2 older girls join in the fun really heightened her play experience...

Sometimes, though, Rowan and Kierce just wanted to sit down and enjoy a little entertainment of their own style....iPads.  Eva and Enzo had no problem watching over their shoulders as they learned about new apps, games, and books.  This is the end result of the 4 of them on the iPad...

During their visit the weather was really all over the place.  Most days were cool and cloudy, we had a few really rainy days, then somewhere in the middle we ended up with some very hot days.  The rule around here is that if the thermometer reads anything over 80 we can get the slip 'n slide out, so we did just that...

One night we made it out for mexican food in Old Town, where the kids were able to find some fun on our walk to the restaurant...

And when the adults stopped for some wine tasting in Julian, the kids and I started making our own fun by taking pictures, until about 5 pictures in my camera battery died :(  At least I was able to get one picture of the kiddos together.

Just as Grandpa, Grandma, and Lorie, the kids really enjoyed our visit to City Farmers Nursery.  There are plenty of trails to run around in, animals to visit, and a farm play area to give everyone something to do.  The girls discovered a little quiet hide-away, where I couldn't resist sneaking a picture...

While there, Kierce found her favorite spot in the whole nursery.  She spent most of her time connecting with the Wild Turkey.  By the time we left, she even figured out his language and was able to communicate with him.

Before the girls left to head back to Michigan, I had one thing I really wanted to do with them.  I wanted them to paint on canvases to create artwork for the baby's room.  I limited them to a few specific colors, but told them to do whatever they wanted and don't use inspiration from what someone else was doing.  I wanted their work to come completely from their heart.  Rowan, Kierce, and Eva all worked really hard at their masterpieces...

And now the baby will have a piece of them with him all the time...

It was hard to have an empty house once everyone was gone, but we are so thankful for the special time we got with everyone.  Thank you, Rowan and Kierce, the kids are still talking about you every day and miss you so much.  We love you!
