Kindergarten, Here She Comes!

Ever since Eva could talk, she couldn't wait to be a kindergartener.  I mean, it has been a constant topic of conversation for years, seriously.  And just weeks before the day finally came, she started planning for college!!  There is just no slowing this girl down, she's ready to dive in to life at full speed.

Choosing the right school for Eva had been an extremely stressful process that Dana and I had been going through in this last year.  I'll spare you the details, but in the end, Eva has had some amazing opportunities to choose from.  We chose the best school closest in distance (only 1.5 miles away from preschool and 10 minute drive from our house).  Once the decision had been made, we were all excited for school to start so we could get to know the school, parents, and classmates.

The Friday before school started we had orientation then a meet up for all the kindegarteners at a local park.  Instantly, Eva started making friends.  She was running all over the playground with new classmates, climbing, pretending, chasing...

When it was time to leave, she had a handful of little friends yelling her name, hugging her and saying good-bye.

Later that evening, we met back at the school for an ice cream social.

We met other parents, Eva met more friends, then we also got to see where Eva's classroom would be, and the outdoor space specifically for kindergarteners.  The boys loved the pots and pans and pretty much stayed there hitting them and playing together the whole time..

Once we got home, we basically spent the rest of the weekend thinking about Eva's first day.  I'm pretty sure neither Eva nor myself slept at all Sunday night.  Then, about 10 minutes before Eva's clock light would've turned on for the morning, she came into my room crying.  She said she had a cough and she was really worried that she might've shared the bad germs with Enzo.  I rolled out of bed, thinking she was nervous (although, I was suprised because nothing seems to make this girl nervous), ready to try and calm her and get her ready for school.  I checked her temp (no fever), gave her some cough medicine (so she felt like I was addressing her concern), then gave her breakfast.  When I noticed she wasn't eating very much of her favorite breakfast and couldn't keep her head up, I started getting concerned that it wasn't a little cough.  She still got ready for school, but was really feeling like she was getting sick.  Sure enough, she was sick, fever and all.  And, I knew she was really sick because she didn't want to go to school.  She ended up missing the first two days, but come Wednesday, she was more than ready to get to school.

Daddy got the priviledge of dropping her off (as he will most mornings), which they are both really excited about.  And, when the two of them get together, you know it has to be something out of the ordinary and spectacular, so she went in style...

Daddy helped her figure out where to go and what to do in the morning.  Eva officially met her teacher, Mrs. Manigold...

Walked to class with her new classmates...

...and then she was officially a kindergartener.

Every day that I pick her up, she has friends chasing her down to get a good-bye hug, she wishes the school days could be longer, and she keeps saying, "I just can't believe I'm finally a kindergartener!"  I don't think I could be any happier for her.

(By the way, I made her "first day of school dress"!)
