Christmas 2016

This last Christmas had been so much fun because the bigger kids were anticipating all of the traditions, while Zander was fully grasping them for the first time.  It didn't take long before Zander could pick out any "Santa" or reindeer while we were out and about, and would yell as loud as he could when he saw them.  "Tanta!!!"

Our elf, Butterfly, came by every day, which got all the kids up extra early every morning in anticipation of finding her, Zander included...

There were many festivities throughout the month in school, community events, etc.  It was hard to pick and choose.  But ultimately, our family's favorite thing was checking out everyone's Christmas lights.  On the weekends, we would eat dinner, then hop in the car with some hot chocolate and drive around to check out all the festive displays.  We would roll the windows down, crank super loud Christmas music and "Oooh and Aahhh."

Eva loved the "Baby Jesus" Displays, Enzo's favorites were anything Star Wars, and Zander claimed all Santas, Snomen, and reindeers.  I loved the family time, and Dana, well, he was taking numbers.

As many of you already know, Dana has been hit with the "Griswold Itch".  He is committed to making our light display bigger and better every year.  All month long, he was adding more lights, making more plans, until finally Christmas came and it was time to start thinking about next year.  This is what it looked like this year....

Being that Zander was sooo much in to Santa, we thought a surprise visit with him might be fun.  Zander wasn't quite in to it initially, but we were able to quickly turn it all around for a happy picture on the big guy's lap.

We had been invited to some cookie decorating parties, which were fun.  Enzo figured out how to make quadruple layered cookies, which he and his friend thoroughly enjoyed eating...

Web Shop Manager had their annual Christmas party, which was a fun, festive night out for Dana and I...

On Christmas Eva we went to our friend's house for their annual party. It's always really nice because we are all festive and the kids are wiped out and ready for bed by the time we get back home.  The kids all have so much fun playing together, and the adults get to catch up, have some drinks, and relax together...

On Christmas morning, we slept with our door wide open, because I knew if Enzo woke up first he would start digging into presents.  I also wanted to hear their responses to the fully loaded tree.  At about 6am I heard their bedroom door open and someone go out into the living room, but then I heard nothing.  I thought maybe someone went to the bathroom, or they were quietly perusing through the gifts.  I layed their for a good 10 minutes and didn't hear much movement, so I got up, quietly peered around the corner and saw Eva, just quietly sitting and looking...

It was the most priceless moment.  Her eyes were gleaming as she patiently sat and looked, absorbing the moment, trying to figure out how Santa did it.  How did he do it all?

As soon as everyone woke, we started the coffee and called Auntie Vonnie to come over.

The kids figured out Santa had a special wrapping paper for each kid.  Zander got the hang out it really quick, distributing gifts and diving in to his own...

The kids all got some really cool things that they wanted to play with immediately.  One of Enzo's favorite's is Dinosaur Eggs that you get to excavate using a small tool, to get your own dinosaur...

Zander loves his Little People race cars track...

And Eva couldn't believe she got her own Easy Bake Oven because the package says it's for ages 8+.  It made her feel like Santa really trusted her to be a big girl and she just loves that she can make her own treats!

The kids were so happy that Santa came to our house, but Enzo still wants to know how on earth he got into our house?  It is absolutely mind blowing.

As soon as the hype of opening gifts started to wear off, Daddy picked Grandma and Grandpa up from the airport for a visit with us.  We had a nice, relaxing week at home.  Grandpa really got Enzo's attention with a shared interest in fixing things, using tools, discovering new things.  He also served as a great teacher the kids' home science experiments...

Grandma and Eva bonded through music.  Eva has a special interest in singing and recently started playing piano as well.  Eva loved learning from grandma and I think Grandma liked the shared interest in something she loves.

Karen, Eva, and I escaped the boys one day to pamper ourselves and do something girley.  We went to the local nail salon for a pedicure, massages, and relaxation.

We also all took an Old Trolley ride through the city, which ended with lunch in Balboa Park...

On New Year's Day, we went back to Balboa Park to listen to the organ play and burn some energy.  And, I got this special shot!

Our Christmas break was so eventful and fun, and now we are ready for another great year together.  Hello 2017!!
