Diamond Back

Since Eva's been born, Dana has been wanting to get Eva in the Baby Bjorn and go hiking.  Over the weekend, we finally made the time to do it.  We chose an easy trail that wasn't too long as a "tester" for future family hikes.  We went to Mission Trails and went to a trail that we eyed up a few months back.  Everything started off great....everyone was happy, healthy, and energized.

We hiked to a small "waterfall" where we took a little break, a few pictures, and enjoyed our surroundings...

Rocky even helped himself into the water...and actually liked it.

We turned around after this point and decided to head back.  As we were walking back, Rocky and I decided to take the lead.  Not too much sooner as Rocky was ahead of me, I saw something by my feet rustling in the grass...I looked down and YIKESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!  It was a snake!  I jumped back and screamed and pointed to it to show Dana.  He then proceeds to tell me that it was a Rattlesnake!!!!  I was completely terrified and scared that Rocky was going to get bit because he would have to run past him again....luckily, Rocky mustve realized what was going on and went around the other side of the trail.  But, I watched the snake slither away and saw the rattle at the end of his tail, verifying that it was, in fact, a rattlesnake.  I was so traumitized by the situation (and still am) that I could barely walk the rest of the trail because I was shaking so hard.  I didn't want to move, yet wanted to get out of there as fast as possible, but the only way back was to walk the rest of the trail.

The crazy ironic thing about all this is that just 2 days before this hike, I was telling my friend that I have never seen a rattlesnake and would never be the same again if I did....then, I see one!  In fact, I even told Dana about that conversation I had with her while we were hiking that day.  What are the chances?  Lets just see how long it takes me to go hiking again.
