Me llamo Rocky

Sibling Love

From the day we found out our second baby would be a boy, I couldn't help but put myself in my mom's shoes.  I, too, am the oldest, with my brother to follow 2 years and 2 weeks later.  As the years go by, it becomes harder and harder to remember all my childhood memories, but as I watch Eva with her brother, memories of myself come flooding in.  With help from my mom's memory as well, I know that I was ALWAYS the older and took the role as big sister very seriously (and it hasn't stopped yet!).  I LOVE watching Eva and Enzo and can tell that Eva, too, takes her roles as big sister very seriously.

If I am busy doing something and Enzo begins to cry, I peek out of the corner of my eye and catch Eva rocking Enzo's swing (maybe a little harder than mommy would like) and saying "Its ok, Bubba."  or "What's wrong, Enzo?"  But, never does she run or try to get me, she tries her best to handle it herself.  Watching this will never get old.  It melts my heart.  I could go on and on with so many instances like the above, but you get it.  And, every time I see these things happen, I just cannot help but think of myself and my brother at this age.

And, so, I finally dug up a photo album from the year my brother was born and to my surprise I found pictures that look almost exactly the same as pics I have taken, too (minus 30 years of style and picture quality).  I will share just a couple.

And Eva holding Enzo...

And remember the adorable pic of Eva reading to Enzo?

Well, what do you know?  Here I am reading to Derek...

Looking back on all these pics brings tears of joy because I know how much I love my brother and now I can see the love that Eva and Enzo will have for each other.  It just keeps growing and growing every year of your life.  It makes me so happy to be able to give that to my children, and in return, continue to keep getting it from my brother.  Derek, if you're reading this, I love you so much and am so lucky to have you for a brother (LITTLE brother, that is).
