Summer Splash

The last week or so has been extremely hot and humid here.  When we aren't keeping cool in the AC, we are spending as much time as we can in water.  Luckily, our friend Lucy's first birthday party was a pool party.  Before the Eva and Jacob got their suits on, they couldn't resist eating ice to cool off...

We all jumped into the pool soon after.  Eva and Daddy were busy doing fancy water tricks, while Enzo and I splashed away.  It had been a while since Enzo was in a pool, so I wasn't sure what he would be like, but he LOVED it.  As soon as he saw that he was headed toward the water he began kicking his legs wildly, then splashed away once he got in...

We've really been lacking in the craft department lately, mostly because I don't have as much time to sit down and do them with Eva.  And, she has no fun doing them herself.  Lately, though, she will ask to color or paint--alot.  I will get everything set up for her and then she dabbles for what seems like 2 seconds and then she is done.  So, I've been trying to get a little more creative with how to expand her artistic side without my needing to add more of my own time in hopes to keep her interested for longer.  The last time she wanted to paint, we tried different things to paint with.  One of her favorites was painting with broccoli, which made a pretty cool print on the paper...

My Honey-Do list for the weekend was pretty simple.  I told Dana that if he wanted to keep Turtlini in our family we must build her a legitimate living area, including a pond or I am taking her to someone else who wants her.  Between you and I, I knew the turtle wouldn't be going anywhere, but it sure kicked Dana's butt into high gear building the pond.  I was extremely happy with how it turned out and loved that my hubbie worked so hard to make it happen...

I was adamant that he build a fence so that she would stay in her space, giving no room for negotiations about the fence.  Dana happily obliged and took the turtle into a reptile specialist on his way to get the fencing.  We found out Turtini is in fact pregnant and may be laying eggs soon, she is domesticated and very friendly (will let you pet her head), and she is a land turtle (yup, meaning she doesn't even need the pond). As soon as it was all set up, we put her inside her new santuary...

...and then 5 hours later, she was nowhere to be found.  Haha.  Yes, she managed to escape her fencing.  Don't worry, Eva later found her next to Bumpy's house on the other side of the lawn.  But, what I think we all learned here is that Dana's the boss of the backyard for a reason...because I have no idea what I'm doing.  Thank you, honey, for being patient and giving me what I wanted by building the beautiful pond and encasing it with fencing :)  (Don't feel too bad for him, though, because if you know Dana, you also know its just motivation to get turtles that do like ponds ;) )

This last Monday, Eva started her first swim lessons (we did mommy and me swim when she was a baby, but she didn't pick up on much there).  This swim class was a bit nerveracking for me.  They scoop your child up and swim them over to a platform where they hold on to a bar and wait their turn.  Yes, WAIT THEIR TURN!  Oh dear, this momma was in panic mode the entire 30 minutes...

Just as I thought, waiting her turn didn't sound very appealing to Eva.  At one point, she let go of the pole and stepped right off the platform, sinking into the bottom of the pool, as I stood on the sidelines screaming "Noooooooooooooooooo!  Evaaaaaa!"  Luckily, the teacher calmly swam over, grabbed her and put her back on the platform and all of a sudden it was like nothing even happened, so I, too, tried not to show the panic on my face.  When it was Eva's turn, she did great.  She is a little scared to learn real swim technique, but I have a feeling by the end of the class, she will be doing very well...

And, my favorite share of the week...So, I get Parents Magazine and recently got my July issue.  As I was reading it, I got to page 22, which was their "Top 10's" of the month.  One thing they were showing was this cardboard stand that could be used for a puppet theater, lemonade stand, etc...the picture they showed was this...

If you can see it, they painted the stand to say "Eva and Enzo's Lemonade"...how crazy is that?  Still can't get over it.
