Today is Enzo's first birthday!! My mind has been flooded with every detail of the day he was born. I remember it so vividly, I just can't believe that an entire year has passed since the first day he came into our lives and I can't imagine our lives without him. He is such a joy :)
We celebrated his birthday a day early so that we could be together as a family for the entire day to help him feel special. We spent the first half of the day opening some gifts that he recieved in the mail. Naturally, as most one year olds, he was more interested in the boxes they came in...
Later in the evening, we celebrated with big cupcakes and song. We presented Enzo with his and he had no idea what to do with the candle. He kept trying to grab it, so I had to show him how to blow it out...
And once he saw what to do, he continued to blow on his cupcake for a good minute or so, trying to mimic me...
When it finally came time for that first taste he just wasn't in to it at all...
and even after he managed to get it all over his face, he still wasn't diggin' it, but he sure had fun with the frosting...
In this last month, Enzo has grown so much with his communication. He isn't quite forming words yet, but his actions show us that he understands us well. If I ask him for a kiss, he gets really excited to come to me with an open mouth and tongue hanging out to give me a big, wet juicy kiss. If I tell him to give Eva one, he thinks its really funny and will chase her down to slobber on her face as well. Eva is surprisingly very good about letting him do it and it is mighty cute.
His newest thing is exploring the world on the other side. He is getting in to EVERYTHING to see what is behind the doors. There are no limits as to what cupboards he will open, but his favorite ones are the pots and pans or the tupperware...
Whenever I catch him I will say "Enzo, shut the door." and immediately he will close the doors (only to open them back up 5 seconds later). And then it becomes a game of repeat.
He figured out the bookshelves...
With that, he is starting to mimic alot of our behaviors. It really blows my mind sometimes. Not only does he copy sounds or movements that we make, but also if I show him just ONCE how to do something, he will copy it and do the exact same thing. This makes for a little boy who does tremendously well at coloring with crayons...
Stacking just about anything...
and Riding a bike...
For someone who has been army-crawling for a while now, he is now lifting that belly off the floor. He isn't walking yet, and in fact, if I ask him to walk he will immediately sit on the floor and refuse to stand up. He just isn't ready. He's into other things, though, like using his head as a plow. He thinks its the funnest and funniest thing ever. He puts his head down like he is about to do a somersault, but then just moves along, pushing his head along the way. He will do it in the sand, grass, tile, carpet, wherever.
He figured out toilet paper and kleenex...
and he loves putting on his socks and shoes. The second he sees them, he fully extends his foot and waits to get them on. I have even caught him going into this room, finding his shoes and trying to put them on himself.
Enzo Russell, Happy Birthday to you, our precious son. You add a depth to our family that we couldn't imagine being without. We love you to the moon and back :)
