Me llamo Rocky

Dedicated to Enzo

Last week, Enzo had a check-up at the doctor.  Just as every other visit, he measured to be quite a big boy.  He is 2' 9 1/2" (100%) and weight was 26 lbs 2 oz (jumping up to 90%).  Just days after Gramma and Bopa flew in to visit us for Christmas, Enzo started walking full-time.  No more of that baby-crawling stuff...

From that point, he basically has turned walking into full on running :)  And, what do you need on your feet to run?  Shoes, of course.  Enzo LOVES shoes.  He will kick, scream, cry, and roll around when it is time to change his diaper or clothes, but the second I mention putting on socks and shoes, he immediately turns on his back to lay down, sticking his feet up for me to dress them.  He doesn't discriminate, either, he will wear anybody's shoes, even if they are 10 sizes too big.  The picture below is Enzo wearing Gramma's shoes when she was visiting.  He kept taking them and carrying them over to his toy table and putting them on to play.  It became an every day ritual for him...

You can also see in the picture that he is now into pushing cars around.  I love to watch him, because he is very particular about making sure the car is always facing in the forward motion, so he totally understands the way the cars work, and then will push them around on everything in the house or on us.  He is also very much into stacking things, being creative about how to use his toys, loves to put things into other things (he will push a shopping cart around the house and keep stopping to pick things up and put them inside), and will also play with figurines--mocking the same actions he watches Eva do.

Not only is he walking and running everywhere, but he is a very good climber.  He climbs up the ladder on our swing set very quickly (most of the time before I even realize it to get over to him to supervise)...

In fact, this is how it usually goes down.  Eva is my "babysitter" and I ask her to yell for me anytime Enzo is headed for the ladder.  He now understands this process and so he will climb to the ladder, wait for Eva to yell, then stand at the bottom, looking over his shoulder, waiting until he sees me coming.  As soon as our eyes lock (in which case I am usually still way too far away), he will start laughing and climb up the ladder as fast as he can and then turn around and laugh at me when he makes it to the top.  He knows exactly what he is doing!

He also climbs on tables alot.  He knows he's not suppose to, but he never stops testing to see what he can get away with.  One table I threw in the towel on is his toy table.  There's gotta be a little give and take, right?  In the pic below, he is on the toy table, but also doing something else he does often.  He likes to lay on his back in the most random places.  He thinks it funny and loves testing out new surfaces to sprawl out on...

Of course, boxes never get old...

I thought he would be way too young to care about the mail carrier coming to the house, but when he hears Rocky barking because somebody is here, he stops what he is doing and runs to the door.  And, why?  Because he can't wait to see what size box he will be able to jump in.

Enzo is also a big lover.  He gives the best big hugs.  He doesn't hand them out like candy, so they are very special when you get them, but what I love most is that he will hand them  out randomly and at most times when people just aren't expecting them.  Every once in a while he will wake up and want extra cuddles in the morning.  He will just lay on your chest with his head on your shoulder and stay like for 10 minutes or so.  Daddy just got one of those moments the other day and I could literally see his heart fill up to full as Enzo laid there.

Enzo also has THE BEST LAUGH EVER.  It is so cute and distinquishable.  You usually get to hear it when you tickle under his chin (which he loves), but his favorite is to get tickled on his belly button.  He will even hold his shirt up for you to really get it good...

Usually passersby get a good smile out of Enzo, especially now that he loves saying "Hi" to everyone and waving his hand.  It always comes with a big helping of smiles...

Enzo is starting to do alot more for himself.  He communicates by taking my hand to lead me somewhere and then points to things.  He shakes his head no when he doesn't want to do something (most commonly when we are trying to feed him vegetables).  And, now he is adamant on using his own spoon, which can sometimes be frusterating because he can't get food on the spoon himself, but he won't let you help...

Just like his sister, Enzo also loves sitting by himself and looking through books.  Every time there is too much silence, I panic, dreading what I might find, only to see Enzo, sitting in the corner of his room, flipping through books.  And, almost every day there is always a time when both Eva and Enzo will read together.  They both love it because Eva gets to tell the story and Enzo gets to have attention from Eva.  Win Win!

Eva's reading isn't the only thing rubbing off on Enzo.  He has also figured out how to add his own goofiness to our family.  He LOVES to tease, loves to get chased, and just thoroughly loves making us all laugh...

And, now, thanks to a wonderful friend of mine, I also get the chance to do a weekly class with Enzo while she watches Eva.  This gives us the opportunity to spend some one on one time together where I will now get to see Enzo more as a singular person.  I am so thankful for this opportunity.  We just had our first class this last week, where Enzo fit right in and made himself at home with all the toys...

(Eva also loves this arrangement, because with her new desire for independance, she loves doing something with another mom and without me being around.  It gives her a chance to flourish in a whole new way.)

In celebrating Enzo's life as a new toddler, I just want to share how very special these moments are and how great this little boy makes our family feel.  You are our sunshine, Enzo!
